Local Government Ombudsman

Local Government Ombudsman The Local Government Ombudsmen (LGOs) look at complaints about councils and some other authorities, including school admission appeal panels. It is a free service. The Ombudsmen investigate complaints in a fair and independent way – they do not take sides.

If you have a problem with a council service, you should first complain to the council. But if you are still not satisfied, the LGO may be able to help. For more information on how to complain call the LGO Advice Team or see the LGO website.

The LGOs deal with:

Councils (district, borough, city or county, but not town or parish)
Education appeal panels
School governing bodies (admission matters only)
Joint boards of local authorities
National park authorities
Fire authorities
Police authorities (but not about the investigation or prevention of crime)
Internal drainage boards
